Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The New Orleans Saints and their former defensive coordinator were caught in a bounty scheme that paid players for hard hits.  Their defense was pretty terrible, I doubt they paid out much…or at all.

The media has put a lot of emphasis on the bounty story and the NFL is allegedly going to make an example of the Saints but is anyone foolish enough to believe this is isolated to one team or group of players?

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

How rude of LSU, letting both Arkansas and Georgia think they had a chance of winning before coming back and smacking them silly.

Tyrann Mathieu surely lived up to his “honeybadger” nickname with two punt returns in the SEC title game.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

Lee Corso dropping the F-bomb on ESPN College GameDay was an interesting segue to a thrilling Saturday of college football.

And for all that entertainment we are left with three SEC teams at the top of the BCS rankings. The SEC domination continues.

Oregon lost to USC in what was called an upset but really isn’t.  USC is still a good program.  The issue is that they are still on probation and no one likes their coach, Lane Kiffin.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

LSU means business, which means another year with an SEC team on top of the BCS.

Further evidence that the BCS is rigged: LSU and Alabama ranked #1 and 2 respectively will meet (after a bye this week) on Nov. 5 to duke it out. That equals more money and ratings, gotta love it.

Was the Michigan State hail mary a good play or bad defense?  You decide.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

How so very kind of Jim Tressel to “volunteer” to serve a 5 game suspension with his players.

Speaking of honesty, or the lack thereof, Bruce Pearl was fired from his job as the University of Tennessee’s head basketball coach. What took them so long?! It has been reported he had a violation this month as well!

No one in America considers the Thurs/Fri NCAA games to be the 2nd round (nor do we acknowledge the Tues/Weds games even happened).

The President was on a roll with his picks but even he got screwed by Pitt and if you didn’t Louisville or Kansas State probably did you in.

Speaking of Pitt, isn’t it interesting that the Big East got 11 teams into the tournament and only two made it to the sweet 16?  Be cool to know how Colorado and Virginia Tech feel about that. Read the rest of this entry »

The Other Killa Cam

He’s not a rapper but a star on the NCAA football field.  He throws a mean pass and seems to get his team back in the game every time they are losing and pull out the dub.  You’ve read my take on the SEC (and if you haven’t you should) so I shouldn’t like this guy but I do.  And I wanted this whole fiasco with Mississippi State offering $180K for him to play to go away.  I thought to myself “Oh lawd, not another Reggie Bush-like saga.”

His daddy, a preacher AND a bishop, tried to go pay for play and barter his son off to the highest bidder supposedly unbeknownst to Cam.  Why can’t the religious folks  be God-like like they are always claiming to be?!  I know a couple hundred Gs would be nice, I’d like that too, but to jeopardize your son’s football career over it.  Would it have been worth it Pastor Daddy?  He’ll buy you a home and cars once he makes it big.  [Side note: Doesn’t his father look a lil sketchy/untrustworthy in that pic?  I’m just sayin’.]

But Cam’s been cleared (for now).  He basically got less than a slap on the wrist by being declared ineligible for 24 hours and reinstated the next day, no major effect in getting prepared for the SEC Championship versus the University of South Carolina.  Although who is to say after all of this that more info is uncovered and the NCAA’s stance changes and someone else has to return the Heisman. :-S

I know Coach Gene Chizik is happy to have Cam on his team.  Without him they surely would not be 12-0, #1 in the BCS poll, and able to brag about beating Alabama in the Iron Bowl.  Auburn finally gets to step out of the shadow of the other state powerhouse.  And if you haven’t learned already I like variety in my sports.  Keep mixing it up!  Now, about that playoff championship system…

The SEC is lame

Well at least this year it is, at least to me.  I’ll admit I’m a little biased but most of the teams in the SEC have been playing very sloppy college football (and I believe NCAA football to be a bit messy in general).  LSU barely wins on several occasions and is #5. What?!  And all this talk about SEC being a tough conference so they deserve high ranking…poppycock!!!  No one should pity a team because they suck in a tough conference, MAN UP!!!

I ranted on Facebook too in response to being told the SEC is tough: WAAAHHH!!! SEC is so tough!!! I play sloppy but since my conference is so tough I deserve high ranking! WAAAAHHH!!! My conference is tougher than TCU’s and Boise State’s those voters know that so they should give me higher ranking! Pity me!!!

Whew, that felt good.

But really, is this what happens when a conference has been on top for too long?  Just making excuses and giving passes?  Teams and conferences have ups and downs which should allow for others to do well and gain some notoriety.  I guess I like variety, dynasties are boring to me.  I want to see other teams do well and not just hear about Florida and Alabama.  Maybe I have subconscious issue with the BCS ranking system that I need to explore.  And I guess that puts me on the TCU, Boise State, Oregon, any non-SEC team bandwagon.  Oh well, I’m fine with that.

Now, onto my Alabama rant.  It gets personal here so if you want to stop reading now you can.  I was so happy to see Alabama go down not once but twice.  YES, redemption!  Now let me explain, I used to work for the University of Alabama…’nuff said (I know, I don’t know what I was thinking).  As a result I’m Miss Anti-Alabama (oh, I got stories) but it began with my disappointment in Nick Saban and his team when Alabama gave up in the second half in last season’s Rose Bowl.  I was so disgusted!  Respect Texas enough to not act like you had everything wrapped up in just the first half.  But of course I couldn’t have this discussion with anyone because it was Roll Tide all the way, they could do no wrong.  However, I do love Nick Saban, that dude is hilarious.  He is so dead serious all the time and can cut you with his words.  I loved his press conferences and sound bites on the local news = instant comedy.

Anyway, War Eagle, I say!  I hope Auburn wins the Iron Bowl.  Although Cam Newton…well, that’s another post.

I’ve been waiting to get that off my chest.  Thanks for letting me share. *end of rant* I know I’m going to get fussed at for this one.  SEC fans are die hard.  Let me say I’m happy to be back in ACC country, it’s where I belong.
