ESPN – No One Beats a Dead Horse Better

It’s late July and the NFL Lockout is finally coming to an end (as we all predicted) without any loss to the regular season (again, as we all predicted).  But there’s another story, one that is all too familiar, that was being discussed when I turned on ESPN this morning.  Brett Favre.  It seems there are rumors that old man Brett would ONCE AGAIN leave retirement and join an NFL team.  This year the story revolves around him reporting to the Philadelphia Eagles and serving as the backup to Michael Vick. PSA: Women Love Sports Too

That should go without saying on this blog but lately I’ve come across comments made by men (on Twitter of course) on how it’s not such a good thing if women enjoy sports. Say what?! Really?! Beyond the obvious thought that Twitter seems to bring out the stupid inner thoughts of people I felt the need to object to the sweeping generalizations being made. Read the rest of this entry »

National Signing Day – Alba Rants

Today is National Signing Day. ESPN would lead you to believe that this day has some importance or relevance when in reality it is a chance for college football to flaunt their programs.  All NCAA sports have signing days, the first day a school can offer and a player can accept a scholarship to play for the program. But in football, and to a lesser extent basketball, these days have become events. Read the rest of this entry »

Dumbest Headline Ever!

So I was checking my hotmail last night (yes, I still have an account!). And if you didn’t know when you log off of hotmail you are directed to MSN.com. I like to view the headlines because sometimes I will learn some news that is relevant or interesting to me. I don’t normally scroll down, however this evening, I move to the sports section and am blessed with the headline “Sorry, girls: Steelers QB might be getting hitched!” EXCUSE ME!!!  WHAT ARE YOU SAYING HERE MSN? My initial hope was that they were referring to Dennis Dixon but sure enough I click the link and they are talking about the Big Perv himself Ben Roethlisberger! WHAT THE WHAT?!?! I feel insulted as a woman. Even with charges dismissed (and one still pending) is Ben really a good catch that we are pining for? The answer is a big HELLS NAW (and I don’t curse often, lol)! And for those few sorry souls that might be willing to go after this man, I’m going to place them in the sad, sorry groupie pile and say a prayer for them. I understand writing a catchy headline to get web hits but this is ridiculous. Yes, it made me click but I wanted/wished it to be someone else.  I feel like I am owed an apology especially due to the trauma that was caused by the headline then once I got to the story, which is on Fox Sports, it really says nothing at all. Give women a little credit. We don’t all want/aspire/dream to be coupled with a football player. We’re not all clamoring for the star QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers even if he didn’t have his questionable history. Ok, maybe some of us like Tom Brady because he (normally) has great hair and dresses his butt off or have a thing for Darren Sharper for…well, just because. What I am saying is be more creative and don’t reduce women to something so simple. I should write a letter to MSN expressing my disgust and letting them know that most women (I wish I could say all) want nothing to do with that perverted, facially disfigured, homely, sad sap that likes to walk around with his pants around his ankles at the clubs. I will definitely pass and ladies, if you see him at the club, lounge, bar, whatever make sure you do too. Actually, I would run.

T.O. Should Be Seen And Not Heard

Terrell Owens is a remarkable physical specimen and a marvelous athlete.  So why on earth does he suck so much as a person?  It’s as if the creator said, “I’ll give you talent and skills but you’re on your own for the brains and personality.”  As certain as winter follows fall, Terrell will complain about his current team.  You’d think we’d be used to it by now, you’d think the media would stop reporting it.  Particularly since his current team, the Cincinnati Bengals are so far out of the playoff picture you have to squint to see them.

Here’s his latest whiny rant:

“I think there’s underachieving from the top down,” Owens said. “You start with the owner, you start with the coaches. And obviously we as players, we are a product of what the coaches are coaching us throughout the course of the week. Of course, we have to go out there and play the game. But in order for us to do what we’re allowed to do at the best of our abilities, the coaches have to put the players in the best position.”

Terrell, shut the hell up.  Build a damn seat and sit in it.  This schtick is getting old.  Granted, Carson Palmer is a mere shadow of his former self and doesn’t seem to be able to guide the team.  They look a lot more like the Bungles of old than the division champs of last year.  But what gives Terrell the right to speak on it?  Why does he think he has all the answers?  Why does he feel that he should be the mouthpiece for all that is wrong on EVERY team he joins?  Yet next season he’ll wonder why, with all his talent and gifts, he struggles to find a team to take a chance on him.

Every season we think he’s learned his lesson but we all know you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.  Someone tell Mo and Kita to come get this dude and save him from himself…or from my tv.  Unless he looks like this…
