Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The NFL lost part of it’s foundation with the death of Al Davis on Saturday.  He became a bit of a punchline later in his life but the NFL does not exist without his contribution.

Mike Vick threw 4 interceptions on Sunday but the bigger story is how lackluster the defense of the Philadelphia Eagles has been this season (after so much hype).

The savior, Tim Tebow, came in to save the day for the Denver Broncos, only to come up short.  Can you say quarterback controversy?

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

So…how about them Eagles?

Michael Vick complained about not getting roughing the passer calls, but doesn’t it seem like the league has a double standard for scrambling quarterbacks?

Does Michael Vick have a sense of deja vu because being behind a horrible line has to remind him of playing for the Falcons, right?

Pretty sure you’ve heard about the Vince Young imposter that looks nothing like VY. Women gave him thousands of dollars…no words.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

Some say Floyd Mayweather sucker punched Ortiz, some say it was a fair knockout.  I say, the more chances we get to see this picture, the better.  This was the highlight of the fight.

Aren’t we tired of Floyd fighting lesser competition and getting controversial victories?  When is he going to bite the bullet and fight Manny? Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports

You kinda hoped Terrell Pryor came out after the half, found an agent in the stands, and signed with him during the Orange Bowl….or was that just me?

January 10 is just too late for the BCS Championship Game.

And why are there still random bowl games on the night before the championship game and after the NFL playoffs? Read the rest of this entry »

Something for the Ladies – Football Edition

It’s that time again.  Ladies, here is our holiday gift to you.

Michael Vick, quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles.  Can we say MVP of the NFL?   Well he’s my choice.

It’s all about the hair but Troy Polamalu is the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Onto another Michael, I was told that the ladies were eyeing the lower half of the Falcons running back Michael Turner last night.

And while we’re on backsides…they’ve been losing bad lately but have you seen the NY (football) Giants in those gray pants?  [It is a lil old, it took me a while to find this one.]

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

This week you really needed NFL RedZone or Sunday Ticket.

DeSean Jackson is messing with fate.  He either will get knocked silly or fined soon.

He’s a jerk but you can’t deny this to win the game:

Didn’t you feel a little bad for Matt Dodge, the rookie punter?

Isn’t it funny that after T.O. got called out for blasting his team he’s done for the season? (hint, hint D. Jax)

Eagles fans need singing lessons.  OK, this might be personal since Robin had to hear this several times yesterday but imagine this x3 and in an enclosed space:

You like Michael Vick too but cringed when he said he’d like to own a dog again.

Ray Rice is finally getting you fantasy football points!

Even if you played in the NFL you’d be scared to try to take this big boy out:

Did you watch any of the bowl games this weekend?  Oh…didn’t think so.

Ralph Friedgen (aka Fridge) might not be your favorite coach but for the new athletic director at UMD to basically kick him to the curb after winning ACC Coach of the Year was kinda cold. [more info here]

The Wizards didn’t get better with that trade, they just wanted to get Gilbert Arenas away from John Wall.

The 24/7 on the Capitals/Penguins game is really good TV (but you’re still not gonna watch the game).

Austin Collie should probably shut it down for the season forever.

The Problem with Michael Vick

This morning I watched “The Sports Reporters” on ESPN and it dawned on me that the people that talk about/write about sports would have liked it a lot better if he came out of jail and sat on a bench never to be heard from again.  It’s very interesting for them to give praise in one breath and take it away in another.  I heard things like “he’s playing very well but let’s remember this is how we thought he would play, had he not gone to jail.” I also heard, “Andy Reid needs to keep him because Atlanta traded Matt Schaub five weeks before the dog fighting incident and he needs security.”  Ummm excuse me?

The NFL is full of men of questionable character.  There’s a reason they forced ESPN to stop airing “Playmakers” years ago, it hit a little too close to home.  But what they can’t have, is a star player that they’ve placed on a pedestal misbehaving.  It’s the same reason you’ve heard little more than a peep out of Ben Rothlisberger this season.  Michael Vick is forcing people to notice him.  The six (SIX!!!) touchdown performance against the Redskins forced him into the MVP discussion.  This makes the people that talk about/write about sports noticeably uncomfortable.  How do you heap praise on a man you vilified only a few short years ago?

For a long time I wondered if Michael Vick was vilified simply because he was black.  But now I think it’s something wholly different.   This has nothing to do with dogs or jail or anything substantial.  I mean shoot, Donte Stallworth killed a man with his car, but no one seems to have any issue with him coming out of jail and signing with the Ravens.  But Michael Vick, he was a star.  He was one of the faces of the league.  He was big time.  He was the quarterback…and there’s the problem.

Every time Michael Vick has a good (borderline great) game his recent past is up for discussion.  We’ve heard more about dog fighting and Leavenworth prison this season than the NFL would like.  People like to compare his comeback to that of Ray Lewis (who went from the witness stand to the wackest Old Spice commercial ever) but let’s be real.  Ray was never found guilty of anything and he never did any prison time (and if you believe the backlash, killing a person isn’t nearly as severe as killing dogs).   All we can hope is that once this season is over, everyone (including the people that talk about/write about sports) can turn the page and move on and we can talk about something else.   Who knows, maybe Brett Favre will unretire again.
