Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports

Andrew Bynum, of the Lakers, recorded a triple-double with a 10 point, 13 rebound, and 10 block performance on Sunday. But does anyone believe he can keep up the intensity on defense?

The Memphis Grizzlies looked to be coasting to a game one blowout victory late Sunday night but the Los Angeles Clippers, led by Nick Young (NICK YOUNG!!), came back from 27 down to win by one.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

It’s the end of the Manning era in Indianapolis. Now we get to play the “where will Peyton land” game until he signs with another team.  This feels like Brett Favre all over again. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The screwed up NCAA football postseason can be summed up by the #7 team in the country playing the 6-6 Arizona State Sun Devils in a bowl game on December 22nd.

Kellen Moore finished his college career with a 50-3 record and if he went to a school other than Boise State he may have won a Heisman.

USC QB Matt Barkley decided to stay in school and return for his senior season with Lane Kiffin. But…Kiffin over the NFL? Huh?

The NBA season came back with a bang on Christmas Day and while some things definitely changed (the Mavericks rolling over like dogs to the Heat for example) some things stayed the same:

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

Let the bowl games begin! Did you know you missed three bowl games last week? Do you even care? (pic from Famous Idaho Potato Bowl)

As if Penn State hasn’t had enough problems their QB, Matt McGloin, suffered a seizure and was hospitalized due to a locker room fight with Curtis Drake, WR. What’s really good?

Quietly the NCAA has decided to hold off on plans to pay student athletes an additional $2,000 stipend. Let’s hope they can agree to enact this, it’s the least they can do.

He’s the Best Ever, But Not at What You Think

As is often the case when a superstar retires, analysts, fans, heck everyone begins to analyze where that particular superstar fits in the pantheon of all-time greats. When Shaquille O’Neal announced his retirement from the NBA this week after 19 seasons discussions of his place in history among centers began almost immediately (personally I have him as #5 behind Wilt; Bill, obviously Russell and not Walton; Kareem; and Hakeem). But there is one thing Shaq did better than any of those players and better than any player thus far in NBA history: manipulate and manage the media. Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

So now that Ohio State’s football program is under investigation (again) for selling 50 cars to athletes and their families will they FINALLY get more than a slap on the wrist from the NCAA?

Meanwhile, the hate keeps coming for Jim Tressel (and I don’t blame them). Folks in Michigan are airing their distaste.

Gary Williams retired from the University of Maryland last week.  While we’re genuinely sorry to see him go, it was time as he was not interested in playing today’s game when it came to recruiting. Read the rest of this entry »

Kobe Bryant – All Work, No Play

Last night, Kobe Bryant and the Lakers took on the Miami Heat.  It was a close game with several ties and lead changes.  In the end, the Heat was able to pull off a victory.  Miami celebrated as if this game was in June and not in early March, but with their current challenges, I understood.  It probably felt like a load was lifted and I’m sure beating the reigning champions helps boost team self esteem.  However, it was what happened after the game that got my attention.  Someone on Twitter posted the picture below:
