Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The New Orleans Saints and their former defensive coordinator were caught in a bounty scheme that paid players for hard hits.  Their defense was pretty terrible, I doubt they paid out much…or at all.

The media has put a lot of emphasis on the bounty story and the NFL is allegedly going to make an example of the Saints but is anyone foolish enough to believe this is isolated to one team or group of players?

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

With the way they’ve played lately is it possible John Calipari, head coach at Kentucky, could finally win the NCAA tournament with a team of his fabulous freshmen?

Duke’s late game heroics are thrilling but how far will playing like that get them in the NCAA tourney?

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The NFL Pro Bowl was this weekend. The question is: Does anyone care?

Of course it was all offense with the AFC team scoring a record of 59 points.

Brandon Marshall, of the Miami Dolphins, was named the game’s MVP, having quite a stellar game that was quite the opposite of his less than marginal season. Go figure.

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

So now that Ohio State’s football program is under investigation (again) for selling 50 cars to athletes and their families will they FINALLY get more than a slap on the wrist from the NCAA?

Meanwhile, the hate keeps coming for Jim Tressel (and I don’t blame them). Folks in Michigan are airing their distaste.

Gary Williams retired from the University of Maryland last week.  While we’re genuinely sorry to see him go, it was time as he was not interested in playing today’s game when it came to recruiting. Read the rest of this entry »

The Gambler

Yesterday, Duke freshman Kyrie Irving made news for declaring he was hiring an agent and entering the NBA draft.  Ordinarily, this type of declaration doesn’t surprise most people.  But this year, with the labor strife in the NBA looking like it will at least lead to a shortened season, it seems to be a little odd.  Irving, who only played 11 games for the Blue Devils due to injury, is likely to be the #1 overall draft pick this year (Cleveland fans don’t get excited, you still have to deal with the bouncing balls of the draft lottery to see if he’ll come be your new savior). Under normal circumstances this would mean big money and big endorsement deals.  This year, it could mean sitting home and watching basketball instead of playing it. Read the rest of this entry »

Are You Not Entertained?

I heard someone say last week that the NCAA Tournament might be the most entertaining sporting event.  As I thought about it, I realized there might be some truth to that statement.  This year a record number of people watched as perennial powerhouses like Kansas and North Carolina were defeated while the relative unknowns of Butler and VCU made it to the Final Four.  Why do people care so much when their own team is eliminated and home watching on TV themselves?  Read the rest of this entry »

Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

Kemba Walker is a beast and deserves a much needed break for putting UCONN on his back in 5 games 5 days straight.

We all knew Duke was not going to allow UNC to beat them two times in a row.

Even the Ivy League teams were battling hard but their fans need to work on their signs, a little too high brow.
