Let’s Be Honest…

Our unfiltered thoughts on the past week in sports…

The ratings for the NFL Draft dropped from last year.  David Stern needs to take note, if the NFL Draft loses fan interest with labor strife, the NBA would fall completely off the map.

After being drafted overall #1 by the Carolina Panthers, Cam Newton proved his country roots by saying, “it’s not going to be instant like instant grits. It’s going to be like collard greens” with regards to his impact on the team.  Oh Cam.  Something tells me the media is going to LOVE covering him.

I think the display of emotion by Von Miller and Mark Ingram at the NFL Draft was beautiful. Wouldn’t you be feeling some kind of way if you were going to be a millionaire or heard an emotional message from your father in jail? Have a heart folks.

Good Luck Andrew

Andrew Luck, the star quarterback at Stanford University announced that he would return to school to complete his degree in Architectural Design.  This announcement came as somewhat of a surprise as Luck pretty much secured his place as the number one overall NFL draft pick (held by the Carolina Panthers who desperately need a quarterback) earlier in the week leading the Cardinal to a 40-12 win over Virginia Tech.  Many wondered why Luck would turn down millions to return to college and play for free.  Many pointed to Matt Leinart as an example of what could go wrong when you choose to stay in school. Who is Brian St. Pierre?

A lot of you may be wondering who is Brian St. Pierre and how long will he last before getting hurt (overheard, I did not say that, lol).  I heard on the radio yesterday that he was a stay-at-home dad before getting the call for Carolina.  Wow.  St. Pierre has actually been busy, as in he’s been with several teams since he was drafted in 2003 in the 5th round, which is a pretty good spot for a guy most of us have never heard of.  He’s been with the Steelers (twice!), Ravens (I ain’t even know!), Cardinals, and now the Panthers.  He doesn’t seem to have a lot of stats to talk about since he’s only played in two regular season games, one for Pittsburgh in ’04 and last season with Arizona where he actually threw for a TD (and an INT).  Well things can’t get much worse for Carolina, so why not?

His accolades seem to be in college where he was second in line behind Tim Hasselback.  Once St. Pierre got the chance to start he became third in the passing and touchdown list at Boston College.  Wow.  Although, he’s 30 (reppin’ 1979) and it’s been over 7 years since he’s gotten this recognition…why not?
